Pan Dulce (Sweet Bread)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water (room temperature)
  • 3/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/3 cup sugar, (for separate step)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • 4 eggs, (beaten)
  • 1 tablespoon dry yeast

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350° F
  • Add 1 tablespoon sugar and yeast to water. Leave sitting for 10 minutes.
  • Mix 1/3 cup sugar and shortening in new bowl.
  • Add salt and eggs to water mixture, slowly add flour until evenly mixed. Cover and allow for rising (about 45 minutes).
  • Cut dough into even pieces and shape into balls. Place on greased baking sheet, slightly flatten dough and bake for 15 minutes (until golden brown).
